Nautical knotted and spliced key fob

An idea gift for a sailor, or anyone who loves the sea,

I created this key ring from a monkey fist knot and an eye splice. The monkey fist used to be weighted with lead, and used by crews in the age of sail to enable a line to be thrown further and more accurately. My knot is not weighted, I use a wooden ball as the centre. The eye splice is a neat and strong way to form a permanent loop in rope.
